Flirting and Male Body Language

So how do guys flirt? - well now you need to be a detective and a good male body language detective at that.

You need to look beyond the obvious signals and look for consistency of signals. It’s the consistency in his signals that is the key here.

You need to know does he raise his eyebrows to everyone - or just you? What differences are in his behavior around you?

For example a guy crossing his arms is not necessarily defensive, especially at winter time when it’s cold.

Having said that there are definite signs men give off when they are flirting.

Aside - Some girls out there will say their male friend does not flirt - rubbish! Look for the 'non-verbal leakage' or micro gestures that give away so much more. Look to see if he gets embarrassed around you and trust your gut instinct.

Male Body Language Signals

Note - Remember to look for a bunch of 3 or more signals, made close to one another and targeted at the same person.

This is by no means the last word on body language, but we do hope it demonstrates how people communicate, specifically of course in terms of male body language.

  • The Glad Eye - Physiologically this is the best flirting sign we can think of. I challenge anyone to come up with something that will cut straight through to a girls attention.

Add on a nice or cheeky smile and bam! there's some serious flirting going on here. There is no better way to make a girl weak at the knees than with extended eye contact, in fact that goes for both sexes. And guys, don't worry if it feels difficult at first or makes you feel funny - run with it and enjoy feeling a bit uncomfortable. It can make your ego soar through the roof when she looks back.

  • Cowpoke stance - The classic male body language of the 'macho' male, he puts his thumbs in his pockets or behind his belt, pointing his fingers to his genitals.

Any body posture that makes him look masculine or tough is certainly a way of flirting. If it didn't work for girls, then advertisers would scrap it yeah?

NOW....while we're on the topic of "guys body language", I have now completed a global study into the dating and mating patterns of over 1500 men and women. The study consisted of online surveys, focus groups, seminars, interviews and field research. simple & fun.

The real answers went into my new book How to get the man you want & How to get the woman you want

  • Hands on hips - Guys instinctively will try to make themselves look bigger. This masculine approach is supposed to be link to mans ancestry to ward off competition and impress the female. combined with hooking the thumbs behind his belt can be pulled off by a confident male.

  • Smooth or mess up hair - A part of preening can be to adjust the hair, without being perfect. A girl wants a well groomed male, but perhaps someone who doesn't outlast her in the bathroom.

Best places to meet single guys

  • Lend you his coat or jacket - Chivalry is still alive, just perhaps less noticeable nowadays. A great sign of flirting with a very personable touch. We know girls who would die for this to happn. A little favourite of girls in case you guys are interested.

  • Touch his face whilst looking at you - Think about it, while we are all trying to look perfect for one another, some subconscious signals tell her there is interest. A sign of being unsure or slightly insecure can be a dead giveaway he is interested. And don't worry guys - girls don't see it as a sign of weakness, in fact it's sometimes endearing.

  • Stroking his Tie - A classic form of male body language for guys in a suit or formal gear. Part of the preening process but can also show a strong ego as he re-affirms his masculinity.

  • Whisper and lean - A very good flirting technique to 'test' the waters as well. Girls love a secret and find the intimacy quite inviting with the right guy. Guys, if you are unsure, try moving say, your drink within her personal space just for a few seconds and gauge her reaction. If it's not positive then no harm done.

Secrets of attracting men - how to use these tips on male body language

If you still are finding it difficult to determine the male body language of your friend or guys in general, then change your thinking. Don't think in terms of signals or obvious visual clues, but instead look for the inconsistencies in behaviour that give him away.

If he acts naturally and free flowing with his friends but closes up when you are around or a girl he is interested in, then hello, obviously something is happening there. Also ask yourself what your brain thinks than ask what your intuition gives you. If its the same then you are probably right.

    Have fun!!
